Hey Darryl! Excellent question. Candidly, it's a tough balance. The Glutashield for example has almost no sugar, while the Inflammacore has 8g of added sugar. Being concerned with added sugars myself, I personally don't mind the taste of the no sugar products. But, we occasionally do get complaints that those products are more difficult to take unless mixed in smoothie (as opposed to just water) due to taste. Inflammacore in particular has some very bitter ingredients that are tough to mask without some type of sweetener. The added sugar in Inflammacore is called Oryza: axiomfoods.com/oryza-brown-rice-sugar-solid/ You can read more about it via that link. As far as added sweeteners go, it's relatively clean and a solid source in my opinion. Of course, per your point, no added sugar would be ideal! But, if a relatively lower amount of a "cleaner" added sugar helps with taking the product to get the benefits, then that is a trade-off I think is worth considering. We don't make the Ortho Molecular products ourselves, but are big believers in them and I've personally used the Inflammacore myself. Hi Joe. We prefer to answer specific questions like this via the phone to make sure we have all relevant information about a person's medical history before making recommendations. The short answer is "we don't know." Unfortunately, the mechanism of action for Berberine is still unclear. However, we can theorize that Berberine helps with insulin resistance and, generally, anti-psychotic medication can cause increase in insulin resistance. There are various other reasons why anti psychotics can increase risk of diabetes. Primarily, a few of them may cause weight gain. We recommend diet and exercise as primary solution to lower the risk. Also, we recommend consulting with a doctor to try different regimens to decrease the risk. That said, Berberine has been used for centuries with positive results. It supports regulation of insulin sensitization, cholesterol, mood disorder and anti-inflammation. Also, some studies have shown efficacy after 3-4 months of use when used in the recommended dose. However, we would like to speak to you personally if possible to check on your medications before making this recommendation as we'd want to double check if there are any possible drug interactions for safety reasons.
